A New Chapter, A New Baby, and a Village to Help Her Grow
At RISE, we know that practical needs are rarely just practical. A bag of clothes. An hour of someone's time. These are things you can hold in your hands — but what a person is really looking for, more often than not, is somewhere safe to land.
This month, that safe place looked like a shopping appointment with a young woman named Elena who is aging out of foster care and recently found out she is pregnant. She came into RISE to find clothing that would work for her body as she brings a new, sweet little life into the world.
One of the best parts about shopping appointments is the time we get to chat with our clients. For her, that conversation quickly became an opportunity to ask lots of questions — what prenatal appointments are like, what kinds of things her baby will need, what to expect next. We answered what we could, and we listened to the rest.
We assured her that she is more than welcome to keep coming back to RISE as her needs change, and we told her the truth: we can't wait to watch her and her baby grow.
At RISE Foundation SCV, we believe everyone deserves a village. We're honored to walk alongside her through this new chapter and can't wait to watch her and her little one grow.
Because this work was never just about clothing.
It's about showing up for someone who is used to showing up alone.
It's about answering the questions no one else had time to ask.
It's about proving, one shopping appointment at a time, that a village still exists — and that she's already part of it.
